Reverend John J. Cryan, M. Div is a priest of the Archdiocese of Newark. Born March 26, 1946, he is a native of the Bronx, NYC.
In 1977, Father entered priestly formation at Immaculate Conception Seminary, Darlington, Mahwah, New Jersey. He was ordained in 1981.
Most of his priestly life has been spent in parish ministry: fifteen years as a Parochial Vicar in three urban parish assignments and twenty years as pastor of an ethnic [Filipino] parish – seventeen of those years also serving as administrator, then pastor, of an inner city parish. He also served at Dean.
Besides his parochial assignments, Father assisted within the collegial aspects of the Administration of the Archdiocese serving as a member of the Priests Personnel Policy Board, as member and chair of the Presybteral Council, and as a member of the Advisory Committee for the Ongoing Formation of Priests. Since 1979 he has been associated the Metropolitan Tribunal as a Judge.
Father has also served on various Archdiocesan committees including the Core Committee of RENEW 2000 and the Stewardship Advisory Board.
Father Cryan served the larger Church within the United States as member of the team of presenters of the National Pastoral Life Center and Pastoral Life Institute working to assist new and seasoned pastors preparing to meet the challenges of the Church in the 21st Century.
His last assignment prior to his retirement was serving as Director of Pastoral Formation at Immaculate Conception Seminary at Seton Hall University. He now lives in residence as a retired priest at Saint Aloysius Parish, Caldwell, NJ.
